I've been writing country songs for forty years — not because it's a career, but because it's who I am. I grew up in Oklahoma, where the dirt is red and the sky goes on forever, and that land has been in every song I've ever written.
My music comes from real places: the family table, the church pew, the back of a pickup truck at the end of a long day. Faith, hard work, small towns, and the people who hold them together — that's what I write about. That's what country music has always been about.
Four decades of line work taught me that the best songs are the honest ones. I'm not trying to chase trends. I'm just trying to tell the truth.
